Thanks for this months topic, particularly this discussion re Eluminate and other e-Learning tools. After much research and particularly partcipation in this Network Community, our current solution is a blend of webcasting (live and recorded sessions) and a Moodle-based Virtual Learning Space.

The big lesson for us ....successful engagement requires personal, face-to-face instruction - best method ... class of up to 10 each with computer and broadband 2 hour duration. After that initial instruction it comes together almost immediately ... forums, chats, surveys, up and downloading - without those first couple of hours of instruction there can be months of nothing! And of course the big challenges - reliable broadband and ill-informed decision-making bureaucrats.
